Histoire de l'Europe : un devoir d'inventaire, séance 7

L'Europe soviétique dans le monde

Carola Heinrich (Univ. de Vienne, cultural studies) : Remains of the Soviet in Cuba

While the Soviets influenced in all political, economic and social spheres in Cuba during the 30 years of collaboration, the Cubans claimed that their mentality differed so much that they had left nothing when leaving the island after the collapse of the Soviet Union. Despite this long period of cultural exchange, the Soviet barely appeared in the Cuban cultural production. Only after its breakup they start to reflect upon this complex historical epoch and its dogmatic traces in literature, film, music and the arts. The image of the Soviets and its influence is reinterpreted and re-evaluated, it undergoes a post-Soviet translation.
