My dissertation entitled “Economic Information Flows related to Japan in France and Germany, 1907-1932” examines the ways that economic information affected the trade policies of France and Germany towards early-twentieth-century Japan. This subject combines economic history, the history of information as well as international history. I am using Japan to read wider phenomena regarding the relationships between globalization and international trade, the links between science and political economy, as well as Japan’s role within international cooperation, competition and standard-setting.
