Tenure Track Assistant Professorship (Private Contract offered by the Fondation National des Sciences Politiques, FNSP)

DUTIES

Research
East/Southeast Asian History has increasingly acquired a greater centrality and importance in the study of the modern world. We consider it a priority for the scientific project and the research of the Center for History, and more
generally for SciencesPo, to recruit a faculty member in the field of Modern & Contemporary History of East/Southeast Asia.
Her/His research must complement and integrate those of the different research fields of the Center for History, particularly 19 th /21 st century political history, broadly understood and open to the transnational dimension.
We expect candidates to have a solid experience in terms of fieldwork and archival research in East/Southeast Asia. Knowledge of one or more Asian languages is required.
In terms of publications, candidates must have demonstrated the ability to carry out innovative, original and internationally recognized research. They must offer evidence of their participation to the most important
international research networks in the field. Ability to attract research funds as well as to work collectively and participate to the training of Master and PhD students will be considered.
Teaching
The annual teaching load is 128 hours, consisting of three courses of 24 hours each and 56 CM hours of complementary pedagogical activities (1h CM = 6.3 h). Teaching will take place at the three levels of education
Sciences Po offers, undergraduate and graduate (i.e.: masters and doctoral programs at the Paris campus). At the undergraduate level, the selected candidate will offer general surveys as well as specific courses and electives, in
particular in the Asia program offered at the branch campus of Le Havre.
During the first three years of the tenure track process, assistant professors must guarantee 88h CM (two courses of 24 hours and 40 hours of complementary service).
Candidates must have an excellent knowledge of English, which will be the language used in the courses they will be asked to teach. Particularly appreciated will be the demonstrated ability of the candidates to teach classes on
issues and topics outside their specific field of expertise and to engage with the broader historiographical conversation.

The application must include the following documents:
● A cover letter with a presentation of the research project(s) the candidate intends to pursue in the future
● A CV and a complete list of publications
● Three selected publications
● A presentation of the courses taught in the past along, when possible, with students’ evaluations

The selection committee will examine all the applications and shortlist 3-4 candidates who will be invited to an in-campus
interview and to present their research to the SciencesPo academic community. The appointment will begin on
September 1, 2020
