Call for Papers – Announcement
4th International PhD Conference of the Association for Political History in cooperation with the Graduate School of Arts at Aarhus University
Political and Intellectual History: Intellectual History as Political History
Aarhus University (22-25 June 2016)
This conference combines two dynamic and increasingly related research fields within historiography: political history and intellectual history in the modern and contemporary period. It is based on the general aims of the Association for Political History (APH, associationforpoliticalhistory.org).
Papers dealing with economic and political thought and its impact or connection with politics are particularly welcome. Between five and ten papers will be chosen from this field. Further fields of interest are not predefined. A narrower definition of themes will be carried out based on the applicants' chosen topics. All are welcome to submit their topics.
A round-table debate on the question as to what political history in the 21st century could and should be and two keynote lectures by leading scholars help to clarify theoretical and empirical questions.
Students with papers will each be allocated one hour for their presentation (max. 15 minutes) and the discussion of their topic. Each paper will be discussed extensively by a senior scholar and a fellow PhD candidate as well as by the plenum.
Speakers and discussants include Hagen Schulz-Forberg (Aarhus University, Moderator), Duncan Kelly (Cambridge University), Marc Lazar (Sciences Po, Paris), Giovanni Orsina (LUISS Guido Carli, Rome), Dieter Plehwe (Social Science Center Berlin), Maartje Janse (Leiden University), Ido de Haan (Utrecht University), Henk te Velde (Leiden University), Pasi Ihalainen (Jyväskylä University).
Deadline call for papers: 1 April 2016
Deadline for registration: 1 May 2016
